Two Postdoctoral Positions in Analysis

Institution: BIDSA Research Center, Bocconi University, Milan
Positions available: 2
Duration: 24 months
Start date: January 1, 2027 (indicative)
Salary: €45,000–€65,000 gross per year
Teaching duties: None (optional teaching, up to 48 hours per semester, paid in addition)

Research Topics

The positions are funded by the ERC project OPTiMiSE. The research focuses on evolution problems from a variational and geometric perspective, with particular emphasis on metric structures, gradient flows, dissipative processes, and the evolution of measures. Key areas include:

  • Evolution problems, gradient flows, and quasistatic dynamics of critical points in metric spaces and in the space of probability measures
  • Variational structures and dissipation principles for PDEs
  • Variational approximation methods, iterative schemes, and optimal control approaches
  • Optimal transport, in both its classical and entropic (Schrödinger problem) formulations
  • Connections with optimization models and applications to Machine Learning and generative models

The specific research program will be defined in agreement with the selected candidates, and may also extend beyond the areas listed above, provided it is consistent with the objectives of the ERC project.

Requirements

Candidates should hold a PhD or an equivalent qualification, obtained in Italy or abroad, or be in the process of completing their PhD within six months from the publication date of the call. A strong background in analysis, PDEs, or optimal transport is an advantage.

How to Apply

Submit your application through the Bocconi Job Market website, including:

  • a professional CV, with the list of qualifications and publications;
  • up to 3 scientific publications submitted for evaluation;
  • a short description of your research interests and their consistency with the themes of the OPTiMiSE project;
  • the names of up to three referees, whose letters must be sent directly by the referees by the deadline.

Application deadline: September 13, 2026, 23:59 (Italian time)
